Concept & Roots: Not so typical.

The Concept

Here’s the idea; spend your days out on the lake wakeboarding, waterskiing, wake surfing, and wake skating with a group of other participants and our staff of pros. When you are not riding you can watch and critique the other riders, chill-out in the sun, or play around with our other non-motorized offerings. There are no strict activity periods and, unlike other camps, access to the powerboat activities is not just limited to an hour a day; we’re talking all-day, every-day. This is one week of your summer that you will remember for your entire life.

The Roots

Evan developed the idea for Water Monkey Camp after years of running a large, all-around summer camp in New Hampshire. He had always had a passion for teaching watersports out on the lake and wanted to create an alternative to the structured, “traditional” camps that most families are familiar with. The new camp program would bring participants in contact with top-notch instructors, the best new equipment and boats, and other like-minded individuals and allow them to vastly improve their riding, skiing, surfing, and social abilities. Small group sizes and a unique location on the shores of a pristine lake would further make Water Monkey Camp the premier spot for watersports teaching, innovation, and fun.

Where Campers Live

Campers and staff live in cabins on our private lakefront compound on the shores of Merrymeeting Lake. Each cabin has either two or three bedrooms with bunks for the campers, a full bathroom, and a lounge. Cabins are designated for either guys or girls and our counselors live there as well to provide around the clock supervision. We also have a clubhouse for group chill time, a multi-purpose field, and an awesome beach.

All counselors, staffers, and helpers at Water Monkey go through extensive background checks and interviews before being allowed to join the team. We take our jobs seriously here so that our families can be at ease with their teens shipping off for a week with us at the lake.

Evan Goldner
Founder : Director

Evan has been working in the camp industry since 2004 and brings a lifetime of outdoors adventure and education with him wherever he goes. He has hiked, biked, skied, snowboarded, driven, motorcycled, skydived, bungeed, rafted, kayaked, wakesurfed, wakeboarded, sailed, backpacked, planed, trained, climbed, and SUP’d in over 30 countries spanning five continents.

Home base for Evan is in Hooksett, NH with his wife, Kristen, and rescue pup Tuckerman. Evan may have studied finance and economics while at college but his life since then has rarely taken him into the confines of an office. He dedicates his days to enjoying the outdoors, seeking new challenges, and helping others take part in this path that he has chosen

Ryan "Soup" Suplee
Head Coach : Media Specialist : Photographer

Ryan has been a professional wake board/waterski coach for over a decade and has spent his entire life in, behind, or around boats growing up in the heart of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Ryan first started his coaching career down at the famed Orlando Watersports Complex where he worked on their boat as well as their cable park helping anyone from absolute beginners to semi-pro riders looking to tweak their style.

From OWC he made his way out to High Cascade camp in Oregon where he again taught riding/skiing on their boat. After a brief stint of being a surf bum in Hawaii, Ryan made his way back to New Hampshire where he has been coaching privately for the past couple of years. He is pumped to progress our program and give our campers the instruction and support they need to achieve their watersports goals.

Ryan Hinrichs

Ryan is an all-around awesome guy and super talented to boot. Besides absolutely shredding behind the boat he is also a rock climbing, slack lining, disc golfing, standing backflip landing, joke telling, guitar playing fiend! (Just don't ask him to whistle). When not at camp, Ryan is studying to be a mechanical engineer at Arizona State University and riding year-round as an ASU Wake Devil.

Certifications: Commercial Boat Driver

Heather Bouchard

Heather was born and raised in Ware, Massachusetts. She just finished up another semester of college at the University of Florida where she is studying biology. She was recently elected as the wakeboard club’s secretary and also placed 1st in the wakeboard women’s B division at regionals. She started wakeboarding because of her snowboarding background and can tell you learning to ride was the best decision she ever made. She can’t wait to meet you all this upcoming summer! Happy shredding!

Certifications: Commercial Boat Driver

Jeremy Woodruff

Jeremy will be coming to camp this year all the way from sunny, dry California and bringing his laid-back Cali ways with him. He wakeboards for the Arizona State University Wake Devils and has been steadily moving up their ranks in his first year of competition. Jeremy has found that the more he teaches others how to wakeboard the better his own riding gets… Which is great for camp because he’ll be busy teaching our campers all summer. Lastly, Jeremy says that he will try anything once and I am sure our campers will help him put that to the test!

Certifications: Commercial Boat Driver

Jill Thomas

While originally from New Hampshire, Jill now calls Colorado home where she is a student at the University of Denver. Jill is an outdoors fanatic and can usually be found skiing, hiking, climbing, or dominating the LAX field on her school’s club team. Some of her favorite foods are s’mores and trail mix (I think she’ll fit in at camp). Jill also likes to slack line, relax in a hammock, or juggle (fire and knives) all while jamming out to some country music. Oh, she also keeps bragging about some amazing cookies she bakes so we will have to see how those are when camp gets started!

The Program, Lake, & Activities Offered: Water Monkey has a place for you.

The Program

Whether you are a total beginner or have been shredding the wake since you could walk, Water Monkey has a place for you. When you enroll you will tell us a bit about your experience level and then on the first day we will figure out where to start with you in our instruction. Once we have a feel for what you can do out there we will get going. At each step in the process you will have our instructors there for immediate feedback and advice. The best part of the Water Monkey instruction program is that you can easily pick up from wherever you leave off at the end of the week. Whether you come back again during the summer or wait until next year, you will be that much closer to the endgame of being a Water Monkey.

The Lake

All of this fun stuff would not be possible without an amazing lake - and that is just what we have. Located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, Merrymeeting Lake is the picturesque setting for Water Monkey. It is big enough to get some great lines for pulling skiers and boarders yet not built up and trafficked like bigger, busier lakes. That makes for glassy conditions, crystal clear water, and increased safety for everyone involved.

On the Boat: From the shore: On Land:
Wakeboarding Sailing Multi-sport field
Waterskiing Swimming Soccer
Wakeskating Stand-up Paddleboarding Ultimate Frisbee

There is no getting around the fact that you can make or break your day based on the food you eat. Mealtimes at Water Monkey are laid-back and fun, just like the rest of the day. We create a menu for the week which includes a balanced variety of meats, vegetables, fruit, pastas, rice, sandwiches, and dairy with inspirations from all over the world. Are you a picky eater, a vegetarian, or do you have food allergies? Not an issue; we can cater to your needs as long as you let us know so don't be shy. We try to source local, mostly organic ingredients, and we cook every meal from scratch.
